Michalis Kilaras is an accomplished IT leader and entrepreneur with extensive experience in IT operations, information security, risk management, and digital transformation. With a strong educational foundation from MIT, Michalis has consistently demonstrated his ability to drive technological innovation and operational excellence across various industries, particularly in the highly regulated financial sector.
At Bank of Cyprus, Michalis led key digital transformation teams, overseeing core banking, digital factory, and business applications, while ensuring compliance with IT risk, audit policies, established information security, data governance principles and regulatory standards. He spearheaded the development of the bank’s IT and digital strategy, leveraging new technologies and Agile methodologies to streamline operations and optimize performance and quality across multiple countries.
As Chief Technology Officer at Eurobank Cyprus, Michalis was instrumental in establishing the bank’s IT infrastructure and main application modules, as well as forming its information security and data protection functions. He successfully led the execution of all key technology and digital initiatives, from building engineering teams from the ground up to directing the delivery of critical software, IT infrastructure, and complex IT and digitalization projects.
His entrepreneurial endeavours have been recognized through numerous awards, including first prize at the University of Cyprus Entrepreneurship Competition and winning the prestigious MIT 1K Competition. Michalis is also an active contributor to the tech community, having spoken at international forums and participated in various professional engagements.
Michalis holds a Master’s degree in Digital Innovation and Information Systems, with a focus on cloud and data privacy technologies for banks. He has also completed Executive Programs in Artificial Intelligence at MIT and Stanford and holds various professional certifications, including TOGAF and SAFe.
